In the Fall, the Cambridge Athletic Department initiated a campaign for new trophy cases that included the opportunity for individuals or groups to secure naming rights to these cases. As part of this initiative, staff members also began the overwhelming task of meticulously going through several boxes of old trophies that had been placed in storage since the transition to the new high school in 2003. “We started this project with one thought in mind”, stated Aaron Quinn – Athletic Director. “And that was to reintroduce our current student body to the proud history of Cambridge Athletics. The identity of who we were, who we are and who we want to be has been hidden in boxes far too long”.
As the new display cases arrive and are filled with championship memorabilia from all of our high school teams, a surplus of other trophies and awards are being made available to the Bobcat Community. This Saturday (December 28th), Cambridge will be hosting both JV/Varsity Girls and JV/Varsity Boys Basketball games beginning at 12:00pmwhen the JV Girls tip-off against Union Local. During all four games, available trophies/awards/plaques/etc… will be displayed on the stage in the high school cafeteria and made available to any interested past player, coach, family member and/or fan. Staff members have been working hard to clean and organize each one by sport.
When asked, Quinn indicated that there would be no charge for anyone wanting one of these items. However, the Athletic Department is accepting donations which can be given at the ticket table located at the new (rear) athletic entrance to the high school. While working on this initiative, staff also located several personal awards/plaques/pictures of former Bobcats in storage. The final phase of this project will be trying to reunite the player and the award.
